The Issues
Real Leadership:
- Elect a Councilmember to serve District 1, not a staff
- Forbrich is Responsive& Efficient
- Reduce Bureaucracy of City Government through streamlining processes
- Work with City Manager to better organize information on city websites
- Council Office should be go to point for all issues- working as advocates for the community, not road blocks to success
- Organize Church, School & Social Groups for Community Initiatives
- Review all contracts brought to council and fairly evaluate the contracts prior to voting on the agreement.
- Strong Ethics, no special interests
- No more scattered preparations & bad decisions
Schools:
- Visit Public Schools in District 1 to do presentation on City Government and how it affects everyone.
- Create City Initiatives to bring younger families back into housing in District 1.
- Need to work with School Board leaders to see what resources and program the City can provide to combat gang violence, poor test scores, etc.
Infrastructure & Sidewalks:
- Repair Roads in Beacon Hill, Los Angeles Heights & Inner City/Downtown Corridors for District 1
- Accelerate the Sidewalk Installation & Repair across District 1.
- Limited time and scope for road projects. Smaller projects can be finished with less disruption.
- Upgrade Infrastructure to support District 1 development and accommodate Fort Sam Expansion
City Wide:
- Support Additional Funding to Metropolitan Health District to streamline processes for inspection through the use of technology
- Increase funding to Gang & Drug Units of Police Departments to provide officers with better tools to fight these problems.
- Recognize and encourage the Tourism Industry and its impact on San Antonio
- Stricter laws on the sale and possession of spray paint by minors. Community Service for City Projects provides a better deterrent towards graphite
- Submit list of Shovel Ready Projects to Texas Congressional Delegation for funding
- Work together with our Partners at Bexar County, combat problems with Teenage Pregnancy and Sexual Transmitted Diseases through education & outreach.
Arts & Culture:
- Continue Mayor Hardberger’s efforts to bring people and culture back to downtown through support of the arts and cultural festivals
Business:
- Protect Small Business from laws that create unfair burdens
- Develop Economic Development Districts to revitalize San Pedro Corridor
- Require Large Retailer to have fair pricing policies within the City of San Antonio to stop the unfair price gouging that is currently going on in District 1.
Tourism & Hospitality Industry :
- Recognize Convention & Tourism impacts on City & local economy
- Support Hotel, Art, Bed & Breakfast, Convention & Tourism
- Work with industry convention organizers to bring large conferences to San Antonio
- Work with Sports Conferences to bring Bowl Games & Conferences to City
Historic Districts:
- Maintain Alley Trash Pickup
- Complete and properly maintain Inner City Parks. Inner City Parks increase value and community for inner city neighborhoods
- Install Community Trash cans in downtown area, King William and Lavaca to reduce litter produced by Downtown Events
- Enforce Draft Plans & Neighborhood Master Plans
Jobs:
- Need to provide incentives to large business to attract good paying, stable jobs for San Antonians
- Be prepared to make concessions on Property Taxes to retain existing large employers.
Housing:
- Continue to work with San Antonio Housing Authority to provide suitable, affordable housing in the city.
- Provide more funding and better outreach for Lead Paint Encapsulation & Asbestos Removal.
Police, Fire, EMS Services:
- Support combined Public Safety Office, to combine operations of Police, Fire & EMS with other City Services to reduce general & Administrative Costs
- Require more inspection of Businesses, mainly bars & restraints to ensure that they are not over occupancy, making it unsafe for patrons to enjoy the establishment.
Zoning & Code Compliance:
- More Aggressive position with Vacant Building Owners in the Downtown area.
- Better Warning System, less tickets for Code Compliance Violations
- Cleaner Neighborhoods through Community Initiatives & Councilman Involvement
Public Works:
- Stronger Oversight of increased Utility Charges
- Work with Utilities leaders to ensure that Capital Projects are accountable and not wasteful
